Widnell have been engaged to carry out supply chain due diligence for G3 Systems for the provision of “Drop-In” Prison Units for five UK prisons including Wayland Prison, Stoke Heath Young Offenders Institution.
Prison populations in the UK have reached saturation point and the G3 initiative provides the UK Government with a fast, but temporary, solution.
The two-story pre-fabricated units will provide cell accommodation, toilets and showers and were scheduled to be designed, built and delivered by mid 2007. A number of the DIU components are being made in South China for shipping to the UK where they can be quickly assembled into the two-storey structures.
Widnell’s role is to monitor the supply production in the South China factories and report back to G3 on the accuracy of the delivery and fabrication programmes and the shipping dates and to recommend preventative measures to be taken by G3, their UK based prefabrication supplier and the factories themselves to ensure the units are delivered on time and free from defects.
