
HAECO HANGAR II (FEBRUARY 2005)
Widnell have been directly appointed by HAECO as their cost consultant for the second maintenance hangar at Chek Lap Kok Airport. Widnell were also cost consultants for the first Base Maintenance Hangar built during the airport construction period between 1995 and 1997.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2006, the new 13,000m2 facility will be able to accommodate two+one wide-bodied aircraft at one time and will have the capability to undertake all maintenance and modification work currently handled at HK International Airport. In conjunction with construction of its new hangar, HAECO is also building a new line maintenance office adjacent to the cargo apron and this facility is expected to be in operation by early 2006, significantly improving services to the company’s freighter customers..
Budgeted at an investment of HK$320 million, these new facilities will lead to the creation of more than 450 new jobs at the airport over the next three to five years. hangar a PFI is the term used for private sector funding and management of government facilities, usually over a period of 25 or more years.
Air traffic at HK International Airport has grown by 18% over 2004 – 2005 and the expansion of the HAECO facilities is intended to put the company in a position to cope with anticipated further increases.
