Beijing’s Court of Appeal recently confirmed an earlier judgement of the Municipal Court in favour of Widnell. The appeal court granted Widnell an injunction against the Beijing practice of Richard Li Hong Qi who has been illegally using Widnell’s name and trademark logo.
Mr Li is an ex-manager of Widnell whose contract was terminated by the company in 2002. He established his own practice and, contrary to professional ethics and copyright law, adopted Widnell’s name and trademark logo and used Widnell’s project references as his firm’s experience to mislead his prospective clients.
Widnell emphasises that since January 2002, Richard Li Hong Qi has had no relationship with the company and the company takes no responsibility for his misconduct or actions nor accepts any liability for them.
Clients, staff or suppliers of Mr Li’s company in Beijing should be aware that he has no connection whatsoever with Widnell Ltd in China or in any other part of the world and that Widnell do not provide support of any kind to his company.
A copy of the judgment is available to download here on pdf.
